Happy birthday Jesus and all that - and happy birthday blog, too. I was up far too late last night making pastries for the Christmas dinner, but I'll be darned if it wasn't worth it. Baking aside, here are some goodies that Santa brought today:
That's right, orange and geranium. I've gotta admit to not really knowing what geranium tastes like, so I had trouble detecting it amongst the strong flavours of orange and dark chocolate. Geranium or no, it tastes fabulous, so no complaints here.
These look a lot like mini Easter eggs, but have a much more satisfying flavour. It takes a long time for them to get soft enough to crunch, but it's worth it in the end.
Here's what they look like out of the packet. The multi-coloured balls on the right-hand side are old school boiled sweets, which I was lucky enough to get a bag of.
This is something a little less edible, but just as sweet. It's a まねき猫 (Beckoning Cat) that I got from my brother. They're lucky charms, which is pretty apt, considering the January exams we poor SEAS students get thrown into (I spent the evening of Christmas Eve studying kanji!).
It's terrible, but once again, I'm edging towards the ol' Basic Kanji Book L1 as means of entertainment. It may just be withdrawal symptoms from having language class twice a day during term, or maybe it's the pressure of exams. Either way, I'd better drag myself from the screen and get on with some practise.
So until next time, メリークリスマス!
